This is an overview for a sysop to setup a point. There are too many Mailers, Mail Tossers and echo utilites to go into detail. Below is a brief layout of what a sysop will do to setup a point. Step 1. Mailer Your mailer uses a nodelist to send/receive mail. Refer to the mailers documention on adding a private nodelist or adding an address to your existing nodelist. You may operate using Session Level Passwords. To decide whether you asign the user a point address or a fakenet address refer to the Point Address Note below. * Point Address Note * The decision to use a point address (1:106/500.1) or a fakenet number (23:100/34, [you make up this number!]) is based on if your mailer and/or tosser is point aware. This is known as 4D addressing. Most of the mailers and tossers today can handle point addressing. Please refer to your docs to see if this is the case so you can decide on the address scheme to use. Since WIN-MAIL is a crash system (meaning it will call your system, you NEVER call the point) you will have to flag all mail for your points as HOLD. Step 2. Mail Tosser Add the point address to your tossers configuration. This is necessary so that your tosser will know who to prepare mail for. To decide whether you assign the user a point address or a fakenet address refer to the Point Address Note above. Step 3. Echo List Processor - Utility One such utility is called AREAFIX. What this utility will do for you is automate the process of turning off/on echos that the point system will request. Basically the way this utility works is by reading a specially formatted message that the point will send. The format is as follows and WIN-MAIL follows the format as well, however, this process is automated for the point in WIN-MAIL. This is not a requirement however, this utility will do all the work of turning on/off echos for the point. * AreaFix Message Format * From: User Name To: AREAFIX Subject: The password you assign the user Body of the Message: (Note each echo is on a line by itself) WINDOWS <---------- Turn on this echo MS_WORD <---------- Turn on this echo MS_EXCEL <---------- Turn on this echo -POLITICS <---------- Turn off this echo WHITEHOUSE <---------- Turn on this echo -LAN <---------- Turn off this echo MISSING_CHILD <---------- Turn on this echo --- <---------- Tearline, meaning end of message There are several such utilities, so refer to the documentation. *The above is the format that WIN-MAIL will generate and send* Step 4. Supply the user of WIN-MAIL with a list of echos so they can decide what they would like to receive. The above is just an outline of what is needed to set up a point. As stated previously, there are too many products that a sysop can use to list all configurations for all the different environments that a sysop would be running. Please refer to the documention that came with the software that you are using. Trinity SoftWARE Development would like to Thank You for taking the time to set a user up so that they will be able to use WIN-MAIL with your system. ******************************************* WIN-MAIL "The Pointe System" Beta: 0.09A (Version 1.0 Revision A) Copyright (C) 1992-93 All Rights Reserved Trinity SoftWARE Development Corp. 17314 FM 249 Suite 105 Houston, Texas 77064 Sales/Support: (713) 894-2290 Fax: (713) 894-5983 BBS: (713) 894-4429 Fido: 1:106/462 *******************************************
